Building Awareness, Preventing Violence

AWARE, Inc. goes beyond crisis response—our mission includes preventing abuse before it starts. Through education, outreach, and advocacy, we help schools, professionals, and community members across Mercer County recognize, respond to, and stop domestic and sexual violence. Change begins with awareness—and every conversation counts.

Community Prevention Programs

Creating Change Together

Our prevention initiatives reach every corner of Mercer County:

  • Domestic Violence Awareness Month events
  • Public vigils, social media campaigns, and bystander trainings
  • Specialized programs for men, parents, and rural groups

We address root causes, challenge harmful beliefs, and empower everyone to be part of the solution. Prevention is possible—one program, one conversation at a time.

School-Based Education

Empowering Students for Safer Relationships

We bring age-appropriate workshops to middle and high schools, teaching about healthy relationships, consent, dating violence, and bullying prevention. Students learn to recognize red flags, get help for themselves or friends, and build respect into every relationship. Our programs, like Safe Dates and other evidence-based curricula, have reached hundreds of local youth and partner with districts countywide.

Professional Training

Equipping Those Who Help

AWARE offers expert-led trainings for first responders, healthcare providers, educators, faith leaders, and more. Topics include trauma-informed care, responding to abuse disclosures, legal obligations, and local resources. These sessions help professionals support survivors with skill, compassion, and confidence.
