AWARE, Inc., Mercer County’s leading nonprofit serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence, proudly announces the appointment of Megan McConahy as its new Executive Director. McConahy officially assumed the role on April 1, 2025.

Megan McConahy brings with her a strong background in nonprofit leadership, community engagement, and strategic development. Her career has been dedicated to empowering individuals and building responsive systems of care — experience that aligns perfectly with AWARE’s mission to provide safety, advocacy, and support for survivors.

“We are excited to welcome Megan as the next leader of AWARE,” said Dave Leyde, Chair of the AWARE Board of Directors. “Her passion, energy, and forward-thinking approach will help guide the organization into its next chapter.”

Founded over 40 years ago, AWARE, Inc. has been a trusted pillar of support for individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of abuse in Mercer County. The agency provides a full continuum of trauma-informed services, including 24-hour crisis intervention, emergency shelter, transitional housing, legal and medical advocacy, supportive counseling, transportation, and prevention education. AWARE’s dedicated team serves hundreds of individuals each year, working tirelessly to promote healing, safety, and empowerment for all.

Under McConahy’s leadership, AWARE will launch a strategic rebranding initiative designed to strengthen its identity, broaden its outreach, and ensure long-term sustainability. This effort will include refreshing the organization’s visual identity, messaging, and community engagement strategies to more clearly reflect its values and impact.

“I’m honored to step into this role and build on the strong foundation laid by the dedicated AWARE team,” said McConahy. “Together, we will not only continue to serve survivors with compassion and excellence but also reimagine how AWARE connects with our community to ensure long-term impact and growth.”

The Board of Directors also extends its sincere gratitude to Lizette Olsen for her dedicated leadership and service. During her tenure, Olsen significantly expanded AWARE’s programs, partnerships, and presence throughout the region, positively impacting the lives of countless survivors and their families.
