determination of founder and President, Doris Buffett, a long-time
community organizer on behalf of battered women and their
children.
AWARE has long had a association with Sunshine Lady Foundation who has provided long-term scholarship for AWARE clients, scholastic grants for AWARE staff to pursue undergrad and graduate studies, and seed funding for innovative programs for battered women and children.
 www.uwmercercounty.org United Way of Mercer County has awarded AWARE a venture grant for a victim support services and primary prevention pilot for students enrolled in Mercer, Sharon and Farrell area schools.
The former Northern Mercer County United Way, a long-time ally of AWARE, helped to establish the Rural Legal Advocacy project. Now merged with the United Way of Mercer County, it supports the development of the web-based distance learning for police and emergency department personnel working in Mercer County hospitals, an expansion of the Rural Legal Advocacy project.
 www.grovecityunitedway.org Grove City Area United Way has been a long-time partner with AWARE to bring services to victims of domestic and sexual violence who live in the southeastern area of Mercer County. GCAUW partnered with Northern Mercer County United Way and the Mercer County Board of Commissioners to expand the Rural Legal Advocacy Project for all rural victims who reside outside the Shenango Valley.
